Summary

Some people have marked difficulties with emotion regulation and impulse control that can lead to difficulties including recurrent self-harm. The basis of these problems is poorly understood. In the present study we are using simple computer-based tests to investigate emotional responses and impulsivity in patients who have had difficulty in these areas and matched control subjects. We hope that this work will pave the way to the further understanding of the underlying causes of emotional instability and impulsivity.
